The Capital Region stretches out on both sides of the Ottawa River to include parts of two Canadian provinces — Quebec (to the north) and Ontario (to the south). Canada's Capital contains two major cities (Ottawa and Gatineau) and has two official languages (French and English). More than a million people live in today's Capital Region (1,081 million in the year 2000).
